My Journey Part 9

Updated: Jul 13, 2023

My High School days, especially freshman year was super exciting. New people, friends and new found freedom.

But first...Band Camp!...Yes I said it band camp was the first stop.

I played alto saxophone since 5th grade and all I knew is I wanted to be one of the ones in those tacky striped rugby shirts going crazy during March Madness...and eventually I did... some years later.

As soon as I find me in my purple marching band uniform, I will post the photo :)

The biggest thing I learned in marching band was discipline. It was a tough word in the beginning, but in the end it didnt break me at all. We had so much fun in the process we didn't mind the rehearsals, the sun, the sweat. It is something about creating something new as a collective that brings everyone's energy to light :)

Second stop - Soccer Camp/Tryouts

Yes, the HOTTEST part of the year. And we were in soccer tryouts

The only thing I remember is everyone pretty much made the team so I am not sure if you would actually call it tryouts. All I can say is I'm glad I did it then. I tried to workout as much 2-3hours a day running around 5 days a week AND band AND School at 33 ... and the sensation wasn't quite the same....hmmm I wonder why.

Yea, I look back and I am not sure how I did it. At the core of it honestly I was quite sick alot with sinus and hay fever which did not make it as fun, but we go through it. Honestly I remember feeling ALWAYS insecure about my abilities. I was not fastest or most talented. I just wanted to be "something" doing "Something" but my 14 year old self didnt know what that was so I did what other people did. That's okay as we figure out our own way :)
